"Icicle" is the ninth song on Tori Amos's 1994 album Under the Pink.

Background Edit

"Icicle" and a piece called "Icicle intro" were among the songs Tori submitted to the Library of Congress for copyright in October 1993.[1]

According to Tori, the song was based on how she used to "masturbate at home as a teenager, while my father and his fellow theologians were downstairs discussing the Divine Light." By writing "Icicle", she attempted to "regain the innocence of her childhood."[2]

Live performances Edit

"Icicle" was first performed during the 1994 Under the Pink Tour and has been played on many of Tori's tours since.[3]

While the song has traditionally been performed alone at the piano, a band version of "Icicle" with drummer Matt Chamberlain and bassist Jon Evans debuted during the 2009 Sinful Attraction Tour.[4]
