"Humpty Dumpty" is a B-side from Tori Amos's 1992 debut album Little Earthquakes.

Background[]

I was wondering if you were gonna play "Humpty Dumpty" anytime soon...

"Interesting that you ask that... I haven't played it since, since I made that disc. It's a b-side on um, the English CD, for those people that don't know 'Humpty Dumpty.' And I had to put an extra b-side down, and they were pushing me for time so I just sat down at the piano and kind of came up with a silly song. And um, do you know, I don't really know it. I'd have to learn it."

Versions[]

the song appears on the China Single and the 2015 Deluxe Edition of Little Earthquake.

Lyrics[]

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.

Humpty Dumpty had a great, great fall,

And all the king's horses

And all the king's men

Couldn't put Humpty together again.

Humpty Dumpty and Betty Louise, oh...

Stole a Sony and some Camembert cheese,

And she said, "Humpty, baby, ah... take me... oo... yeah...

Take me to the river,

Ah... 'cause I like the way it runs, yeah.

Ah... take me to the river, oh...

You know I like the way it runs, yeah,"

And he said, "Oh... everything's going my way."

He said, "Maybe it's my la...lucky day,"

And he said, "Oh... anything you want, I can give."

She said, "I wanna take your picture just for me."

He said, "Anything."

She said, "Up there, baby."

Na na na na na na...

"Get on the wall, babe."

Ah... so Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,

And looked at her as he was fallin',

And all the king's horses

And all the king's men

Couldn't put Humpty together again.

Hey, Betty Louise...

Hey, Betty Louise

She said, "I like custard in the summer, honey."

Oh yeah... what it takes to be queen...

Hey, what it takes to be queen...

Hee... oh... what it takes to be...

Oh...
