"Baker Baker" is the fifth song on Tori Amos's 1994 album Under the Pink

Background Edit

"Baker Baker" was included in the recorded songs Tori submitted to the Library of Congress for copyright in October 1993.[1]

In writing the song, Amos admitted she had to consider how she had treated men in the past and "deal with a man that truly loved me, but that I wasn’t emotionally available for." She also noted that this admission of emotional unavailiability was "where gaining my power is coming from, being able to say I am the one who has not been able to be intimate, I’m the one who pushed him away."[2]

Remastered and alternate versions Edit

"Baker Baker" was remastered and reconditioned by Mark Hawley and Marcel van Limbeek for the 2003 greatest hits album Tales of a Librarian. The song was also remastered for the 2015 reissue of Under the Pink.

An alternate version of "Baker Baker" mixed in 1994 was included on Disc B of the 2006 boxset A Piano: The Collection.

Live performances Edit

"Baker Baker" was first performed live during the 1994 Under the Pink Tour and has been played on all of Tori's tours since.[3] While "Baker Baker" has traditionally been performed alone at the piano, John Philip Shenale wrote a string quartet arrangement played by the Apollon Musagete Quartet during the 2011 Night of Hunters Tour and an orchestral arrangement of the song for the 2012 Gold Dust Orchestral Tour.

Live solo performances of "Baker Baker" were included on the "1000 Oceans" US and Australian singles and on Legs & Boots.
